The Solomon Islands are in the OFC U-19 Men’s Championship semi-finals after defeating Tahiti 1-0. Both teams aimed to progress, and Tahiti needed a win to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Jimson Abana from the Solomon Islands had two opportunities to score but missed both shots.
However, at the 22nd-minute mark, the ball went into the net after Abana rounded the keeper and tapped it in, but it was ruled out for handball.
Despite Tahiti’s fast attacks, their player, James Laena, was unable to score. Iliwai Resopawiro made a promising run but missed the target.
In the final chance of the first half, Franck Papaura’s long run led to a chip shot easily saved by goalkeeper Gideon Abidan.
The Solomon Islands have now won three consecutive matches, while Tahiti finished third in the group and will play in the fifth-place playoff on Tuesday.
