New Zealand Football has announced the death of Bob Patterson, former NZF CEO and President of Northern Region Football. Originally from Newcastle, England, Patterson played football in the armed services and had coaching experience in the New Zealand National League.

Bob Patterson’s leadership roles in the New Zealand Football community were marked by his visionary approach and transformative decisions. As the NZF CEO, Auckland Football Federation Chair and CEO, Knights CEO, and Central Football CEO, he left an indelible mark. His tenure on NZF’s Executive Committee, which spanned until 2022, was a testament to his dedication and service.

Bob Patterson’s contributions to New Zealand Football were not only recognized but also celebrated. In May 2024, he was awarded a New Zealand Football Life membership at the NZF Annual Congress, a testament to his significant role in the sport. New Zealand Football CEO Andrew Pragnell aptly described Patterson as a true legend of football in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

He made an impact across the sport, from grassroots to professional, and even delivered the first-ever FIFA tournament. He had an infectious, lifelong passion for the game and served as a mentor to many of the people who now play senior roles in football.
