New Zealand clinched their sixth OFC Men’s Nations Cup title with a 3-0 victory over Vanuatu at VFF Freshwater Stadium in Port Vila. In their group match, the home team had lost 4-0 to New Zealand but put up a strong fight in the final.

About 10,000 enthusiastic fans filled the Freshwater Stadium, creating a vibrant backdrop for Oceania’s premier football event.

New Zealand’s starting lineup saw only one change, with Sam Sutton stepping in for the injured Tim Payne. This change proved significant, showcasing the team’s adaptability and Sutton’s performance.

For Vanuatu, Alex Saniel returned to the team in place of the injured Bong Kalo, and Timothy Boulet took the spot of Kerry Iawak. The game started with a stunning goal from Cam Howieson, his first at the international level, which surprised the crowd in just two minutes.

Despite the disappointment of the Vanuatu fans, their team showed remarkable resilience under the leadership of captain Brian Kaltak and new Head Coach Juliano Schmeling.

The New Zealand defence was rarely troubled, and goalkeeper Max Crocombe had to make only one clearance in the first half. Kosta Barbarouses had a chance to extend New Zealand’s lead but was denied by a strong save from Iamar.

New Zealand had dominated their previous three matches, scoring 12 goals without conceding. However, they faced a determined host team that kept the game close in the final. Veteran striker Kensi Tangis threatened the New Zealand defence, causing problems throughout the match.

The game became a midfield battle on a rough pitch, with few clear scoring opportunities. Timothy Boulet received a second yellow card, dealing a blow to Vanuatu’s hopes. Substitute Jesse Randall scored his first international goal, securing New Zealand’s sixth OFC Men’s Nations Cup title.
