PAC SPORTS—Football | Fiji U-19 secured a victory in their opening match against Tahiti

In the opening match of the OFC U-19 Men’s Championship in Apia, Samoa, Fiji defeated Tahiti, claiming all three points. Although Fiji had the opening chance, captain Penisoni Tirau failed to convert.

Later, Tahiti’s captain Kamalani Bennett scored the first goal, but Fiji’s captain Penisoni Tirau missed a penalty kick before half-time.

Fiji scored an equalizer when Akash Prasad took the ball in the box, resulting in a tie. Then, Tirau scored a strike from a distance, putting Fiji ahead at the break.

In the second half, Fiji continued its strong performance, with Tirau scoring another goal to increase its lead.

Despite some fatigue and a drop in intensity, Fiji’s defence held strong, and Tahiti was unable to score.

Fiji now leads Group A, while Tahiti will face the Solomon Islands in their next match. Fiji will also play against Vanuatu in their second match on Monday.
