Papua New Guinea’s quest for more goals to break down Tahiti’s superior goal difference was met with a crucial second goal in the second period. Kolu’s excellent through ball released Ati, who skillfully tucked the ball under Taupau to double the lead. Although Semmy, a key player in the match, nearly scored a second, his effort was over the bar.

Later, Samoa responded, and Pharrell Trainor headed in to halve the arrears of Luke Tolo-Kent’s excellent cross.
