The decision to start ex-captain Sam Cane as an openside flanker due to Dalton Papali’i’s thumb injury is significant.

Cane is a test veteran with experience, calmness, and tough shoulders and will be present to offer advice and a calm voice during the intense match.

Lock Scott Barrett will captain the All Blacks at Ellis Park, while Cane will be near his shoulder to offer advice and a calm voice.

Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has had former All-Black Tony Brown offer insights and advice on his staff.

Robertson also referenced Erasmus’ strategy of using traffic lights from the coaching box to send signals to his players.

The All Blacks will host the Springboks at Ellis Park on Sunday, while the Pumas play the Wallabies in Buenos Aires.

The All Blacks lineup includes Beauden Barrett, Will Jordan, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Damian McKenzie, TJ Perenara, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Ethan Blackadder, Tupou Vaa’i, Scott Barrett (captain), Tyrel Lomax, Codie Taylor, and Tamaiti Williams.
