Updated: 6:00am – More than 48,700 drivers were issued with traffic tickets since January.
According to the statistics provided by the Fiji Police Force, 48,732 traffic infringement notices have been issued to drivers around the country since 1st of January.
The statistics further reveals that 29,909 speeding tickets were issued followed by 1567 TINS for not wearing seatbelts.
Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says Police officers are out on the streets to ensure there are no fatalities as few days remain for the year to end.
“We need your assistance, we need your support as far as road rules are concerned. We have already lost 66 deaths on our roads, we don’t want to have any other loss of life and it is all the responsibility of individual road users especially our drivers to make a right decision.”
According to the statistics, 1012 drivers were arrested for drink and drive in the last 12 months.
