His daughter Sanjeshni Lata, 31, was the last person who spoke to her dad. “The last conversation I had with my dad was that he said they were coming home and he was close.”

“Little did I know that was all. “I won’t see him again. “We just celebrated his birthday on September 10.

“We are still in shock that this would be the way he left us behind,” she said.”

According to Ms Lata, her late dad together with her husband had taken her younger brother to the Tavua Health Centre since he was not feeling well.

On their return, according to a witness on the roadside, the late Mr Kumar had crossed the road to buy some vegetables. Mr Kumar was returning to his car when he was allegedly mowed down by a truck carrying an earthmoving vehicle.

Police confirmed the incident happened in the afternoon. The Police forensic teams were present at the scene last night conducting investigation.

It is alleged that it was a hit and run case. Police are looking for the driver and the vehicle.

Police will await autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Shakuntla Wati, three children and four grandchildren.
