10 families affected by Nabua fire receive $1000 cash each and other items

Updated: 6:32am – 10 families who lost everything in the fire that destroyed 6 houses in the Muslim League Settlement in Nabua 2 days ago have each received $1,000 cash, mattresses and clothes from the Ministry of Women Children and Poverty Alleviation.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Women Josefa Koroivueta says this is part of the program by the Government which is called the “Fire Victim Grant”.

He says this is basically to provide for the immediate basic needs such as food, things for the children and healthcare needs.

Koroivueta says the Ministry will now do a complete family profile to be aware of the specific needs of the family and to ensure that the addressing of their issues is done in an organized manner.

Assistant Minister for Women Veena Bhatnagar handed over the cheques and other items to these 10 families.

Housing Authority of Fiji were also present earlier today have agreed to provide three months temporary assistance to those families who do not have a place to live and are living with their neighbours.
