A man has died after being shot by police following an incident in Papatoetoe on Thursday evening

At 5:47pm, police were called to a location in Avis Avenue after a shot was discharged through the window of an adjoining house.

Police, the equipped guilty parties crew and a police Eagle helicopter reacted to the episode.

The man, who had been in the adjoining property, was shot by police when he emerged from his home purportedly holding a weapon.

Police said staff kept on making endeavors to haggle with the man all together purpose the matter securely.

They said at about 8.24pm, the man emerged from the house with a shotgun. Police said they consistently requested that he drop the gun, yet he neglected to do as such.

He was then shot.

St John staff quickly controlled progressed emergency treatment to the man before he was moved to Middlemore Hospital for medical procedure, where he passed on.

Police would deliver the man’s name after conventional recognizable proof had been done and the man’s closest relative had been educated.
