Fj News: Trial date set for former FNU VC

The trial date has been set for the former Vice – Chancellor of the Fiji national University (FNU) facing corruption charges for the following year.

Ganesh Chand appeared before Judge Riyaz Humza yesterday and was represented by Devanesh Sharma.

Justice Riyaz Humza stated the trial would be heard from 16th July 2018 to 27 July 2018 at the Suva High Court.

The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) had charged Chand in 2015 for one count of Abuse of Office.

It is alleged that Chand while being employed in the public service as the Vice Chancellor of FNU, in abuse of the authority of his office, did an arbitrary acts for the purpose of gain.

The matter has been adjourned to 28 June 2017 for mention.
