Updated: 7:21am – After a two-year lapse the Jittu Boxing Stable is sending in a five-member team to fight in the Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotions set for Friday, October 13, at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday JBS head trainer Marika Yalimaiwai said they’re grateful to the Boxing Commission of Fiji for giving the green light and promoter Simon Naushad for signing the boxers.

“Many of the boxers here in Jittu see boxing as a way out of poverty and to make it in life,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for them to earn money for their families or even get a job. At the Jittu Boxing Stable we tell our boxers to stay away from drugs or any sort of criminal activities. We’ve been doing this for almost 20 years and there many that pass through our gym and make it in life while there are others that don’t but we’ll not give up on them.”

Yalimaiwai confirmed that boxers who have signed up with Naushad are;

 Former World Boxing Foundation Asia Pacific light heavyweight champion Sakiusa Mekemeke who takes on hard hitting Savenaca Naliva

 Super middleweight boxer Junior Maku is also making a return to the ring. Both Mekemeke and Maku hail from Lovoni in Ovalau- the home of boxing greats like former Fiji Golden Boy Sakaraia Ve, Sivinia Koroi and Jale Ligavai

Former Fiji amateur boxing reps Aklesh Pratap and Sam Foster have signed their contracts along with Iosefa Cakaunivalu.

All these fights will be undercards to the 10-round super welterweight clash between unbeaten Siliveni Nawai of Mulomulo Boxing Club, Nadi and Jese Ravudi of Naitasiri.
