Labasa comes from behind to beat Ba in VPL

Updated: 9:38am – The Labasa soccer team has beaten Ba 2-1 in their Vodafone Premier League match at Subrail Park yesterday.

Edwin Shayam scored the winning goal for Labasa in the dying minutes of the game.

Ba had Meli Codro sent off in the later stages of the first half while Ba goalkeeper Josaia Ratu was red carded in the dying moments of the second half.

Ba had taken the lead in the first half through Samuela Nabenia after his powerful shot found the back of the net in the 22nd minute.

In the second half, Labasa equalized in the 38th minute when Ba defender Laisenia Raura scored an own goal before Shayam scored the winner.

Shayam says despite the ground conditions he is happy to have beaten Ba.

Labasa now has nine points and are joint second on the VPL points table with Lautoka while Ba remains 5th with 3 points.

Nadi leads the VPL points table with 11 points.

Ba will now play Dreketi at 1.30pm today.

Meanwhile, the match between Suva and Tavua that was scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to bad weather.
