Updated: 7:00am – A Navua businessman convicted of rape was sentenced to nine years imprisonment by the Suva High Court yesterday.
Govind Sami, 62 years of age, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of indecently annoying his 27 –year-old caretaker on three separate occasions between 2014 and 2016.

The offences occurred when the victim was alone at the accused person’s farm warehouse in Navua. Justice Salesi Temo sentenced Govind Sami to 9 years imprisonment for each count of rape and 9 months imprisonment for the count of indecently annoying the victim.
The sentences are to be served concurrently. Govind Sami is to serve 8 year imprisonment before he is eligible for parole. -End
