Updated: 6:45am – Minister for Transport, Parveen Bala says the Opposition is very much against cars being brought into the country.

Bala had responded to a question posed by Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa in parliament on the number of vehicles on the roads and about plans for making bicycle lanes.

Bala says the government has allocated funds to build lanes to cater to traffic.

He says there is a Bicycle Act and studies will be carried out by the Fiji Roads Authority. He says there will be a review of the Bicycle Act because the existing Act is from 1939.

SODELPA MP Niko Nawaikula suggested that there should be flexi-time, where work can start at different times in the day. He says some people can start work at 7 am, some can start at 8 am and so forth so that they all don’t come into Suva together.

Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni ruled that was not a question but a recommendation.
