A man fatally struck by the driver of a stolen van in Christchurch was waving at his son across the road when he was run down.
Family of the killed man, Dean Amies, said through a spokeswoman the son witnessed the white van hit and kill his father, then take off. A friend of Amies’ said pair recently reconnected. All of the family were struggling to cope after his death, the spokeswoman said.
The driver, who police allege was patched Black Power member Liam Strickland, 21, remains on the run after the incident in New Brighton on Wednesday. Armed police swarmed several Bishopdale properties on Thursday morning, including on Hoani St, looking for him.
As Christchurch Police urgently seek a “dangerous man” after a fatal hit-and-run yesterday police have reportedly descended on two Papanui streets.
Liam Strickland, 21, is wanted by police over the incident and there are several warrants for his arrest. He is described as being 182 centimeters tall, with dark hair and facial tattoos.
After the crash, the driver took off, leaving the pedestrian lying unmoving at the intersection of Hawke St and Shaw Ave, as witnesses rushed to help him.
