UPDATED: 6:15am – The National Fire Authority is calling on home owners to install burglar bars that can be easily opened during a fire. This after five people lost their lives in Viam Pillay road Rifle range in Lautoka on Sunday night.

NFA says it’s important for home owners to also map out a plan with their family members and discuss the exit routes through the main door and other alternative routes in the house as a means of escape to get out of the house safely during a fire.

NFA is also asking home owners to consider installing a Smoke Detector in their homes that will alert the family in the event of a fire in the house.

The fire death toll currently stands at thirteen so far this year, compared to eight for the whole of last year.

Meanwhile, NFA investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and the deaths of the five people.
