Fiji to meet NZ in Singapore 7s cup quarters after beating Spain to top pool A

Updated: 9:30am – The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team will meet New Zealand in the Singapore 7s quarter-finals today after defeating Spain 33-5 to top their pool.

Despite two yellow cards to Fiji, the national side still managed to dominate the game with tries to Alasio Naduva, Eroni Sau, Paula Dranisinukula, Isake Katonibau while debutant Keponi Paul scored his first try in the World Sevens Series.

Fiji was leading 19-5 at half time.

Waisea Nacuqu and Kalione Nasoko were sin binned due to high tackle and neck roll respectively.

Fiji had earlier defeated Japan 42-12 and Russia 29-7.

In the match against Russia ,winger Alasio Naduva scored two tries while Josua Vakurinabili, Waisea Nacuqu and debutant Terio Tamani also scored a try each.

The national side has scored more than 4000 tries in the World 7s series.

Meanwhile Sevuloni Mocenacagi was ruled out of the tournament after suffering an injury in their first match against Japan with Terio Tamani called in to replace him.

We will meet New Zealand at 4.30pm today in the first quarter final.

In the other quarter final fixtures, South Africa will meet Kenya, Australia will face Spain while England will take on Samoa.

The semifinal will start at 8.50 tonight while the final will be held at 12am tomorrow.
