A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has rocked the North Island.

An extent 5.3 seismic tremor has shaken the North Island.

The tremor hit at 7:15am on Tuesday 25km west of Whakatāne at a profundity of 133km, as per GeoNet.

Not long after the shake, in excess of 1000 individuals had detailed inclination it, remembering some for Wellington and Auckland.
