Baber picks same team from Hamilton 7s for Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s

Updated: 7:00am – Fiji Airways National 7s Coach, Gareth Baber has yesterday named the same team that participated in Sydney and Hamilton, for the Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s.

Baber says Apete Daveta has not recovered from his ankle injury but the team has been strengthened by the inclusion of Waisea Nacuqu who has recovered from his niggling knee injury.

He says most of the players played well in the Hamilton 7s and they are looking to them for consistent performance.

The selected players are: Josua Vakurunabili, Paula Dranisinukula, Mesulame Kunavula, Jasa Veremalua, Vasikali Mudu, Jerry Tuwai, Vatemo Ravouvou, Amenoni Nasilasila, Waisea Nacuqu, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Alosio Naduva, Eroni Sau and Kalione Nasoko.

The side will travel this Wednesday to Las Vegas for a preparation camp before the tournament next weekend followed by the Vancouver 7s the following week.

Baber highlighted that the remaining squad members will continue to train under Saiasi Fuli as the team continues to build up for the Commonwealth Games and the Hong Kong 7s

Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor reminded the players that they need to perform consistently in every leg as we build up to the Commonwealth.

He told the players that it is up to them to go out there and perform like champions and win both tournaments.

Fiji will play Russia in their first pool match of the Las Vegas 7s at 12.06pm next Saturday and we take on France at 3.07pm next Saturday.

Fiji then play their final pool match against Kenya at 8.36am Sunday.

The Cup quarters start at 1.26pm next Sunday, the Cup semis will be held at 9.12am on Monday 5th March while the Cup final will kick off at 12.30pm Monday.

South Africa is the defending champion of the Las Vegas 7s.
