Updated: 6:40am – Mere Naulu could not hold back her tears when the news of her father’s death was relayed to her in Kashmir, Lautoka on Saturday.
Her father, 57-year-old Jona Kadivuka died instantly when the car he was driving was involved in the fatal accident.
The accident occurred along Denarau Road in Nadi at around midday on Saturday.
Passengers in the other vehicle survived the accident without any injuries.
“I am still in shock with this sad news because we had just met few hours before that in Nadi.”
Thirty-seven-year-old Ms Naulu was in tears while sharing her story.
She described her father as a loving and caring man.
“We had met in Nadi and he reminded me that he will come back to Lautoka to see my eldest daughter who is currently boarding at Jasper Williams High School.
“We will miss him especially my children because they were close. Even though he was not that educated, he tried his best to meet our needs,” she said.
The late Mr Kadivuka was on his way back to his village in Solevu Village in Malolo Island when the incident happened.
He was the village head-man for the past 16 years.
Ms Naulu, a hotel worker said his father was a hard-working man and ran his own business in their village in Solevu, Malolo.
The late Mr Kadivuka leaves behind his wife, 58-year-old, Arieta Kadivuka, two children and seven grandchildren.
Eye witnesses at the scene said there were three other passengers in the vehicle Mr Kadivuka was driving.
They sustained minor injuries and are admitted at Nadi Hospital.
When the Fiji Sun team arrived at the scene, items like mattresses and a gas cylinder were on the road.
Passerby crowded the scene of the accident trying to assist a man who was lying unconscious on the road.
Police confirmed that investigations continue.
