Updated: 11:40am – Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber intends to send the strongest team to the Sevens Rugby World Cup in San Francisco on July 20-22.

Baber said that is why he was looking at overseas based-players like Leone Nakarawa, Josua Tuisova, Semi Kunatani, Semi Radradra and Nikola Matawalu.

“I have enquired about them and other players who have played for national sevens team previously,” Baber said.

The national sevens team have twice hoisted the Melrose Cup (Sevens RWC title) in 1997 and 2005.

Baber and his men are on a roll and will be turning up the ante in their preparations for the Commonwealth Games and the 2017/18 World Sevens Series.

With the inclusion of Rio Olympic gold medallists Semi Kunatani and Samisoni Viriviri, Baber indicated that he intends to rope in more players.

“It is obviously about finding the balance for that team in the World Cup. But we are not looking at complete changes but rather adding two or three players in to what we have already.”

He said the inclusion of players like Kunatani in the team would really boost their combination and potency in both attack and defence.

“He can play in the backs and in the forwards. I’m looking at him to be an impact player in the squad.”
